EPISODE 0101 (PILOT): EVERYBODY LIES

Lieutenant Gregory House is in the streets of Manhattan on the beat. NYPD from all over the city have their hands full with the Cyberian Riots. Gunfire is met with gunfire and carnage is evenly distributed across the soiled walls of the lower quarter.

House has gotten a call from his colleague, Sergeant Wilson, who went down ahead of the group to try and negotiate the matter. F*ckin’ wind-ups don’t want to negotiate, the words echo is House’s head. He warned his friend and now, for all he knew, the man was dead. House carefully stalks the alleys, his way lit by burning wrecks and oil-drum fires.

Wilson is there, his arms and legs broken, but he’s alive. A lone cyberian Gunner clad in red plating, or is that blood? House aims for the processor with the last AP round in the chamber. The Gunner has already drawn on him.

The processor is destroyed, not even the most meticulous data retrieval will make that Gunner born-again whole. However, the Gunner’s aim was true and a shrapnel star severs his leg at the knee, toppling him. House is alive, but now thinks he’d be better off dead.

Doctor House awakens to the shrill shrieks of Cuddy’s bloated face, deformed by the angle the holographic projectors sits at. She has a case for him. Cyborg woman suffering severe cases of metal fatigue. House isn’t interested until she tells him it’s Wilson’s sister.

Didn’t know Wilson even had a sister, wonders House. Could Wilson really be capable of keeping a secret for almost two decades?

House is intrigued and arrives at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital, nestled safely within a perimeter of mansions belonging to the aristocrats of the upper quarter. He walks with a limp made of metal and a chip on his shoulder heavier than any boulder. His leg is the grudging handiwork of top cyberian engineers. The cyberians took away his leg and then gave it back to him, flawed and without feeling. He frowns, seeing three doctors fast approaching and pops a couple stims; letting them dissolve on his tongue and line his throat and dull the pain.

One of the doctors is a cyberian, fit awkwardly in a doctor’s lab coat. His name is Foreman. House doesn’t like Foreman because he is a cyberian. Foreman feels the need to impress and surpass because he is cyberian and it’s only been ten years since the riots. Chase is a hotshot stim-jockey from the Australian sector. His prowess as a surfer on the Net makes him ideal for bypassing patient firewalls to find out their true health histories since EVERYONE LIES. Cameron is a virgin, no cyber parts in her entire body, mostly for religious reasons. She believes everyone is inherently good.

Taking the case of Wilson’s sister, House realizes what’s wrong with her after making his tenth incorrect diagnosis. The metal fatigue is being caused by a rare blood disorder that actually dissolves the cybernetic prosthesis and circulates them through the heart. Knowing what to treat for, House sets his team to task and goes to confront Wilson, now an oncologist.

House ferrets Wilson’s lie before he has time to blink. This woman isn’t Wilson’s sister since no such blood disorder exists in his family. Wilson admits that he lied on behalf of the woman. Being from the lower quarter, it was a very slim chance that a hospital of the upper quarter would treat her. House can’t blame him, it’s in Wilson’s nature. He’s too nice; he’s soft like meat. House pops another couple of stims, feeling the pain from his leg pepper his words. Wilson apologizes for lying to his best friend.

House shrugs and turns to him before leaving and says, Everyone Lies.
